The American Red Cross North Country Chapter is hosting a two-day training course for those who want to become First Aid, CPR and AED instructors. The Alice T. Miner Museum on Route 9 in Chazy is hosting author Anne Easter Smith for a book signing and talk about her book “Royal Mistress,” which is about the rise and fall of Jane Shore, who captivated three of England’s most powerful men in the 15th century. The event is at 7pm.

The War of 1812 in Plattsburgh is holding a book talk and signing from 1pm to 3pm for “Nine Days a Soldier: The Story of Aiken’s Volunteers in the War Of 1812”with the author, Joy Demarse, and illustrator, Elyse Zielinksi, both of Plattsburgh. The Cambridge Fire Department is having an open house from 9am to 3pm.

A benefit for SPC. Jonathon McCray and his battle with leukemia is being held at VFW Post 309, 710 Route 22B in Peru starting at 1pm. The event includes a spaghetti dinner, 50/50 raffles, live music by “Replay”, activities for the kids, a bake sale and more. Jon was diagnosed after a deployment to Afganistan.

Sunday, May 19th

The Montpelier Community Gospel Choir performs its spring concert at Bethany United Church of Christ, 115 Main Street, Montpelier at 7pm. There will be a free-will offering.

A wide selection of plants including annual and perennial flowers, herbs and vegetables are on sale from 9am to noon at the Town Hall in North Hero to benefit the North Hero Library.

The North Hero Volunteer Fire Department is having a roast beef dinner from 4:30pm to 7pm at North Hero School.

May 25th is the deadline to register for the Funds for Fallen Officers Walk and Memorial Motorcycle Run happening on Saturday, June 15th in St. Albans.  The money raised supports C.O.P.S. The First Baptist Church at 81 St. Paul Street in Burlington is hosting a marathon breakfast from 8am to 9:30am for $5 per person.

Thursday, May 30th

The Visiting Nurse Association presents “Start the Conversation,” a program that encourages families to learn about end-of-life care options, at The Terraces at Shelburne from 1:15pm to 2:15pm.  It is free and open to the public.

Friday, May 31st

“Celebrate Colchester’s Performing Arts Night” commemorates the town’s 250th anniversary combining the community chorus, the high school band and choruses, the community band and a historical skit.  This celebration takes place at Colchester High School at 7:30pm.

The Cathedral Church of St. Paul on Cherry Street in Burlington presents “Piano Two by Two” featuring music of Beethoven, Brahms, Revel and more at 7:30pm.

The performance is by members of Greenfield Piano Associates.

 “Wheels for Conner” benefit spaghetti dinner and dance is being held at the Hinesburg Community Alliance Church.  Dinner is from 5pm to 7pm and the dancing begins at 7:30pm.  For reservations, call Victoria at 985-3914.  The cost is by donation.  May 31st is Connor’s 6th birthday.
