Saturday, May 11th and every Saturday through the end of October

The Burlington Farmers’ Market opens Mother’s Day weekend and is new location in its 40th year.  Visit from 8:30am to 2pm at 345 Pine Street in the city’s South End.

Through Monday, August 12th

The Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge Junior Waterfowl Hunter Training Program is Saturday, August 17th at the Franklin County Sportsman’s Club on Route 36 in St. Albans from 8am to 4:30pm.  Mentors and youths who would like to participate, must register by August 12th.  Call 802-868-4781

The “HANDS in the Kitchen” series continues with “Fruit Smoothies” for adults 50 years of age and older from 4pm to 5:30pm with Chef Robin Burnett at ONE Community Center, 20 Allen Street in Burlington.  Register by calling the Parks and Recreation Department at 864-0123

Wednesday, July 17th

The Anderson Falls Heritage Society’s “Summer Speakers’ Series” debuts with Dr. Gordon C. Pollard, who will provide an in-depth look at the historic Clintonville iron industry.  Sponsored by the Clinton County Historical Association, the talk is at 7pm at the Keeseville Fire Department, 8 Pleasant Street.

Fletcher Free Library in Burlington presents Very Merry Theater with “Frozen” from noon to 1pm.  Bring a lunch.  All are welcome.

Thursday, July 18th

The City of Plattsburgh Police Department is holding a Community Gun Buy-Back at the Crete Memorial Civic Center from 9am to 1pm.  They are paying $25 for non-working and antique firearms, $50 for rifles and shotguns, $75 for handguns and $100 for assault weapons.

The Binghamville United Methodist Church in Fletcher is having a turkey pie supper with servings at 5pm and 6pm.  To make reservations, call 849-2120

The Addison County Firefighters Association is hosting its 130th annual Vermont State Firefighters Association Convention in Middlebury.  It begins on Friday afternoon with a memorial service at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church at 5pm followed by fireworks at dusk at Woodchuck Cider.  Saturday features fun for the whole family at the high school starting at 8am.

Isle of Patmos Masonic Lodge, 40 South Street in South Hero is having a buffet breakfast from 7:30am to 10:30am and take-out is available.  Everyone is welcome.

The Fletcher Free Library in Burlington is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing with a Stargazing Party at Lakewood Cemetery from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.

Cambridge Rescue Squad, 18 Williamson Court in Jeffersonville is hosting an open house from 10am to 3pm to celebrate 30 years of 9-1-1 service.  There will be a Red Cross blood drive, a food drive for the food shelf and a barbecue.

The Vermont Military Museum at Camp Johnson on Route 15 in Colchester is holding an open house from 10am to 3pm to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the WWII Merci Boxcar, a gift to Vermont from France.  There will also be a Military Book Sale.  Admission is free.

The Stowe Free Library at 90 Pond Street is hosting an outdoor screening of the movie “Grease” at 9pm with picnicking starting at 6:30pm.  Friends and families are encouraged to come in costume.  The film is free and food is for sale.

The Vermont chapter of USA Dance is hosting an Ice Cream Social Dance at Holy Family Church, 28 Lincoln Street in Essex Junction from 6:30pm to 11pm.  No partner necessary and attire from jeans to formal is welcome.  There is Ballroom, Hustle, Latin and Swing.  For more information, go to

The annual Fallen Angels Motorcycle Ride to benefit a sick child in the community gets underway at 11am from Mad River Pizza in Au Sable Forks with registrations from 10-11am.  It ends at Mountain Riders Clubhouse in Wilmington with food, fun and prizes.

The Sons pf the American Legion Squadron 14 at 100 Armory Lane in Vergennes is having an Auto Show from 9am to 3pm to benefit the Dodge House in Rutland and the Greater Vergennes Boys and Girls Club.  Entry fee is $20 per auto and $10 per motorcycle.

The Ethan Allen Homestead Museum off of the Belt Line (Route 127) in Burlington welcomes historian Jason Barney at 2pm.  He will discuss his on-going research focusing on northwestern Vermont during the War of 1812.

The Clinton County Historical Association presents “Industry and Immigration in Clinton County” with retired teacher John Couture.  It is being held at Lake Forest Senior Living Community, 8 Lake Forest Drive in Plattsburgh at 6:30pm.  It is free and open to the public.

The Naval tradition of minting a commemorative coin to celebrate the Commissioning of the USS Vermont invites Vermonters to submit a design by July 26th.  The crew of the new submarine will decide and complete the design in August.  Learn more at and submit your entry to
